Bodog loses domain name battle

Posted on August 29th, 2007 in Poker News, Poker Rooms by Fayaz

Bodog.com, the popular online gambling brand which was fighting real tough to hold on their domain name, has finally lost the battle. Considered as one of the giants in the online gambling world, Bodog lost its domain name bodog.com as a consequence of a lawsuit filed by a Las Vegas company.

1st Technology, the company which has filed a suit against Bodog, says that the Bodog software download by its customers infringes upon their patents. 1st Technology LLC obtained a $48.6 million default judgement back on June 14 against Bodog which the company failed to answer, most probably fearing action from the U.S Department of Justice.

As a fallout of the current situation, Bodog have now lost their domain name and nothing exists at Bodog.com. However, Bodog founder Calvin Ayre has moved swiftly and set up newbodog, where players can continue playing and betting.

Ayre claims the domain name trouble is “the result of a legal dispute over the ownership of the Bodog.com domain name.” According to a report published in Jackpot.co.uk, Ayre goes on to explain that they will fight the dispute and is confident that they will win.

Betting analysts say that loss of business to Bodog could be more than $48.6 million they had to pay to 1st Technology LLC. Bodog ranking in search engines, such as Google has been remarkable. Bodog sympathisers fear that the potential customers who arrive at the old domain will simply go somewhere else.
